Just one touch from the Master's Hand
Isaiah 45 v 2-4 - I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
What another beautiful morning? I woke this morning with the sun shining in the window and thought winter is over, spring is here and summer is on its way. There was a silent but bubbling joy in my heart.
I was reminded of an experience I had a good number of years ago when my boys where small. One evening, I needed a loaf, milk and dog food. But all I had was £1.96. I remember standing outside the shop counting my change again, and praying that somehow I could get what I needed. As I walked into the shop I could hear a mocking voice saying you are stupid - praying just as you walk into the shop - what do you think God is going to do in the next few seconds. But I went to the bread and the loaf was reduced - I found the dog food reduced - even the milk was reduced. I walked to the counter and handed over my £1.96 which was just enough - but I felt as much joy as if someone had just handed me £1,000. I left the shop with a skip and a smile. The scriptures came to my mind where God said he would go before me and prepare the way.
I have many testimonies of how God has met my needs - unfortunately there have been to many times where I failed to ask and failed to receive - but I have repented and am learning and growing more in the grace and love of God.
There is a story of a man who had worked hard and saved up all his money to buy a ticket to go to America. He boarded the ship with his few possessions and a brown paper bag with some cheese and crackers. He didn't have any money left to buy food, so he planned to ration his cheese and crackers over the long journey. Every day all the passengers met in the banquet hall to feast, while the poor man hide away and ate from his ration. On the last day - one of the other passengers approached the poor man and said - I have noticed that you never came to eat with everyone else can I ask why - the poor man hung his head in shame and explained that he had used all his money to buy the ticket and didn't have anything left for food. Then the other man - said - but "Sir, did you not know that the food was included in the price of your ticket?" This brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it and think about how sad it is.
Jesus taught us that God is a good Father who gives good gifts to his children. When we come Jesus, and accept him as our Lord and Saviour, He takes us to the Father - we are no longer orphans but now adopted as the children of God. We don't have to be afraid to ask or afraid to receive.
When you walk into your parents kitchen and see a bowl of fruit sitting on the table - it is good manners to ask if you may have an apple - and very good manners to say thank you. Parents give their children the best they can. But earthly parents have limited resources - BUT our Heavenly Father has no limit - he is the Creator of all creation. And he wants his children to come with confidence to ask and to be thankful for his goodness. He not only wants and desires to meet your need but he has provided whatever you need. We must learn that it is safe to ask and it is good to receive.
Jesus said that nothing is impossible with God. He also said in John 14v14 If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
There is another beautiful scripture in Ephesians chapter 1 - v5-6 - For it was always in his perfect plan to adopt us as his delightful children, through our union with Jesus, the Anointed One, so that his tremendous love that cascades over us would glorify his grace - for the same love he has for his Beloved One, Jesus, he has for us. And this unfolding plan brings him great pleasure!
God loves faith - he loves when we take him at his Word, he loves when we ask - I encourage myself as I encourage you today to find out more of his promises and ask the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of our understanding that we might be able to receive more from his loving hand that we may bring glory to his name. Faith pleases God. I want to please God. Amen x
I have chosen this song "Just One Touch" and I pray that as you listen to it that hope, faith and expectation will rise in your spirit and heart for miracles of provision, miracles of healing, miracles of deliverance and divine intervention on behalf of the children of God. When we speak forth God's Word - His Hand stretches forth to work.
