They Told me about Jesus

What does it mean to Repent?

Repent means to Turn or Return.  So when you hear a preacher say that you must Repent - he is meaning "to turn from evil and to turn to God"  It isn't really about acts of sins that we think, like drinking and smoking etc.  But it is more to do with the sinful nature that every person is born with.

"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one . . . For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"   Romans 3:10, 23, KJV

You see everyone is born with this sinful nature, we all want to do what is right and we try our best, but there is no-one without sin.  Even from a young age, we can see it in our children.  There is a pull to be disobedient and to do things their own way.

There is only One Way to be free and be washed clean and that is through accepting Jesus Christ as the Son of God.  When we accept him, we also accept the plan of Salvation and the great Love that God gave to us by sending his son to die for us - to take our place - because Jesus was the Son of God, who became a man by being born into the world - but He was without sin - so he was the perfect sacrifice - he took the sin of the world upon himself and died in our place so that we could be forgiven, washed clean and adopted into his family.

We were created with a FREE WILL -  that means that each person must choose to accept or reject Jesus Christ as their own personal Lord and Saviour.  Accepting Jesus is nothing to do with accepting or joining a religion it is a personal decision to return to our Creator.  And giving our lives to him, to serve, worship and love him and letting him lead us into the purpose he designed for our lives here on the earth and also for eternity.

What we must realise is that each one of us is a spirit and soul living in a body.  Our body has a lifespan on this world but after that, when the body dies - our spirit and soul lives for eternity.  The question is where?  God's plan is for everyone to accept and know Jesus Christ his son and enter into his great plan to live forever with him.

"The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent."  2 Peter 3v9

It's not just about going to heaven as some people think but I Praise Him, that his plan of salvation begins the moment we accept him and call upon his name.  He is the one who changes us from the inside.  There are so many promises available to everyone who turns to him and so many great blessings of being a child of God.

I love the words of Psalm 103 which says

2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
6The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

I have recorded this song called They told me about Jesus.  Many hear about Jesus, but still don't know how to accept him or respond to him.  I pray that this song blesses you and helps you today to call out his Name and pour out your heart to him.  He will not turn you away.

If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ...  Romans 10v9
If you take this first step to the new you, tell someone, and it is so important to find a bible teaching church or someone who can help you learn and discover what promises and blessings are yours now that you are a child of God.
