Miracles of Jesus part 4

 Miracles of Jesus part 4

Jesus heals the Centurion's servant

Matthew 8 vs 5-13

The Centurion came to Jesus "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly"  Jesus said "I will come and heal him". The Centurion answered "Lord, speak only and my servant shall be healed".

The Centurion explained how he understood 'Authority' because he himself was a man under Authority and had men under his Authority.  He recognised that Jesus was under the Authority of the Living God and that if he 'spoke' the sickness would have to obey him.  Jesus told this Centurion that he had great faith.

Jesus said "Go - let it be done for you as you believed"  and the servant was healed at that very moment.

We see that this Centurion had great faith because he understood about Authority and this is very important, because there are many Christians who believe that Jesus has All Power - but they do not understand that Jesus has not only given that power to us but also his authority to use his power.  Great Faith comes from understanding or having a revelation of the Word.  Because the bible tells us that Faith comes by hearing the Word, this means not just hearing in our ears but in our spirit.  A hearing that brings understanding is called Revelation.  Out of revelation comes Faith to act on the Word.  Without the revelation - faith to act doesn't come - so many are still waiting for Jesus to come and heal.  But notice that this Centurion came to Jesus and even when Jesus said "I will come and heal him" the Centurion said "I understand WHO you are, so Speak the Word only and my servant will be healed".  Jesus responded to this man's faith, and his servant was healed.

We also see that this Centurion must have been a Godly man - not only to recognise WHO Jesus was, but he also was very kind and compassionate about even his servants.  This was not his son, or a member of his family but his servant.  God is no respecter of persons, so as we grow in grace and love by the Holy Spirit in our hearts to have this same attitude towards others.  To reach out to others because God loves them and his saving and healing grace is available to everyone, regardless of who or what their problems may be - each one is welcome to come to Jesus.

So I am challenged on 2 parts with this miracle - 1- to have the eyes and heart of compassion towards all men and 2 - that some miracles are totally dependant on my own faith, not the faith of the person who needs the miracle.

I remind you as I remind myself today - Don't think small - we have a big God with a big heart.  Jesus said "with God all things are possible". (Matthew 19v26)

This song is about Woman who touched the hem of Jesus Clothes - this reminds me that healing belongs to me as a child of God and that I can reach out and touch him and be healed.  xx
