Why did Jesus have to come as a baby?
Why did Jesus have to come as a baby?
Many can tell the Christmas story, but the real question is Why? Why was Jesus born as a baby? Why did he have to come to the earth in this manner? Until we can understand the Why, we will not be able to enter into the fulness of what True Christianity is all about.
The well known and quoted scriptures about the Christmas Story are read every year, and still people don't understand what they are really reading or hearing. Many can quote these scriptures by memory, they sing the carols and Christmas songs, without ever even asking the question "BUT WHY?"
Isaiah 9 v 6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
This scripture in Isaiah 9, lets us know that there is much more than a baby being born. It gives us insight to the bigger plan and purpose of WHY Jesus came as a baby. The Kingdom Principals of this scripture, which are being laid down here for us, lets us know there is so much more than just another baby boy being born into this world. The question "Why" Begins with this fact "Unto us a CHILD is BORN, unto us a SON is GIVEN". We have heard this so many times, and it is so easy to run on past without understanding this is a 2 part statement.
Firstly "unto us a CHILD is BORN" - this is the man Jesus, who was born of a virgin, 100% man. The baby that lay in the manger that we celebrate at Christmas. As prophesied by Isaiah many 100s of years before.
Isaiah 7 v 14 - "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel".
Immanuel means ' God with us ' - Jesus, the Word of God, The Son of God, became flesh, became a man - born into the world as a baby. He was 100% man.
John 1 v 14 "so the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son."
But the great mystery is that he was conceived by the Holy Spirit - Fathered by Father God - that is why his name is Immanuel - God with us. Jesus was 100% man and at the same time 100% God.
Secondly it says that "Unto us a SON is GIVEN". This was no ordinary child, this was the Son of God, the Christ, the Anointed One.
This Son which was Given - is the basis for our salvation. John 3 v 15 For God so loved the world that he GAVE his one and only SON, that everyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not SEND his SON into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only SON.
You see, many believe in the 'CHILD which was BORN' but the real question is "do you believe in the 'SON that was GIVEN'?"
Luke 19 v 10 and Matthew 18 v 11 both tell us that "the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost".
Once we realise WHY Jesus came, we can begin to understand 'True Christianity'. That it is not just another religion - it is so much more - It is about being Liberated from the bondage of darkness and sin that we have each been born into. Instead being "Born Again" therefore being Delivered into the Life and Love and fellowship or relationship with Our Heavenly Father.
Colossians 1 v 12-14 "Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints (God's people) in the Light. For he has rescued us and has drawn us to himself from the dominion of darkness, and has transferred us to the Kingdom of His beloved SON, in whom we have redemption (because of his sacrifice, resulting in the forgiveness of our sins and the cancellation of sin's penalty."
When we are born into this world, we are born under the dominion and influence of the kingdom of darkness. Religion in every shape and form, no matter what it's name - is man's way of getting to God. Through ritual and rules, through good works and so on. But NO-ONE can be good enough, no-one can earn or buy their way to be free from the bondage of sin. Sin's penalty is death. Death is Separation from Life - Father God is the creator and he is the life giver. Sin separates mankind from God, not from his grace but from personal relationship.
John 14 v 6 "Jesus told him (and he is still telling us today) - I am the way, the truth and the life. NO-ONE can come to the Father except through me".
Satan had taken dominion over the world - because Adam had given up his birth right and given it to Satan. But Jesus came to restore that which was lost. Jesus became a man - 100% man - in order to take back what man had lost.
Man was created to have fellowship with Father God. Man was created with legal dominion to carry out God's purposes in the earth. Adam gave up his God given purpose and lost dominion and sin entered. Sin ruled and overruled man's free will from that day forward. The purposes and image of Father God became distorted and religion became man's way to try to get to God. BUT Jesus came - the CHILD which was BORN - but he was also the SON which was GIVEN - 100% man but sinless - he became the perfect Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice - in order to legally take back the original plan and purpose for mankind and restore personal relationship with Father God. He came to reveal the true image of Father. He came to fulfil God's purpose on the earth. He came to establish the Kingdom of God.
When we believe in the CHILD that was BORN and also the SON that was GIVEN, and we believe in WHY he came, we will rejoice that we can be born again - made new - brought back to the original plan and purpose of Father God. We will celebrate Christmas with a real living, heartfelt JOY - knowing that, if there had been no CHILD BORN and no SON GIVEN, there would have been no perfect sacrifice - there would have been NO way to come to Father God. We would never be Delivered and Liberated from the bondages of sin and darkness.
Romans 10 v 9 tells us clearly " if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved".
As Father God gave his Son - and Jesus gave his Life - the gift of salvation is also given to us. As with any gift - we must receive it. Have you receive that gift of salvation? which is new life in Christ, deliverance from the bondage, the guilt and the shame of sin. You can receive it today. It is offered to every man and woman, because God loves you, anyone who will call upon his name and receive his Son - will be saved, he has promised, he will not turn anyone away.
When we receive the SON that was GIVEN and all that he lived and died for - we are brought into new life in him - and are reconciled back to Our Heavenly Father. We can now begin to have fellowship with the one who knows us, created us and discover the greatest gift of all - Why am I here? What is the purpose of my life?
2 Corinthians 5 v 17-19
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
Father God, I thank you for the child that was born and the son that was given, thank you for your great plan of salvation. I acknowledge, believe and understand that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life - the only way to come to you. I pray today according to your word in 1 Timothy 2 and v 4 - which declares that you desire all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. So I come into agreement with you Father God and pray for the one reading or listening today - that they will be able to receive your love for them and believe in your Son Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and that the eyes of their spiritual understanding will be open so that they can come into the knowledge of the truth, which will make them free. Thank you Father that your thoughts toward us are good. Your grace is greater than any sin. You are perfect in all your ways. Amen.
